About Us

Content on this site was created by six groups of the seminar Lang 901 Advanced North American Cultural Studies & Lang 701 Comparative Cultural Studies offered in the Department of English Studies at Trier University.

The goal of this class is to deepen students' knowledge of American culture through researching and presenting on a topic of their choice.

In winter semester 2019/2020, students choose topics either focusing on Native Americans or on representations of high school in works of fiction. In winter semester 2020/2021, students choose to focus on one American stereotype, researching to what extent it is true. In winter semester 2021/2022, students looked at American culture portrayed/mentioned in fictional works, discussing their significance in/to American society. In winter semester 2022/2023, students focused on the rise and fall of the shopping mall, an icon of American consumer culture or on Asian Americans and their history, role in US society and their American identity.

The results of their research are presented here.
